Commenting

Add threaded comments to outcomes and work cards.

Comments are how teams discuss work in Joyous. Every outcome and work card has a comment section powered by a TipTap-based rich text editor with formatting, @mentions, and threaded replies. Conversations stay attached to the entity they're about, creating a permanent record of decisions and context.

Posting a comment

  1. Navigate to the entity

    Open the outcome or work card you want to comment on.

  2. Find the comment editor

    Scroll to the comment section or switch to the Comments/Activity tab. The editor shows a placeholder: "Write a comment..."

  3. Write your comment

    Type your message. The editor supports rich text formatting: bold, italic, code, lists, links, and more. Type @ to mention team members.

  4. Click Comment

    Hit the Comment button (or the send icon) to post. Your comment appears instantly in the feed.

Rich text formatting

The comment editor supports the same formatting as the document editor:

  • Bold and italic for emphasis
  • Inline code for technical terms
  • Links to external resources
  • Bulleted and numbered lists
  • Blockquotes for referencing other content

Keep comments focused on a single topic. If you have multiple questions or feedback points, consider posting separate comments so each can be resolved independently.

Threaded replies

Comments support threaded discussions. Click Reply on any comment to start a thread. Replies appear indented below the parent comment, keeping the conversation organized.

Thread features:

  • Each reply has its own author, timestamp, and formatting
  • Threads can be collapsed for cleaner reading
  • Thread authors can mark discussions as resolved

Activity feed integration

Comments appear alongside other activity on the entity's Activity tab — status changes, property edits, and AI agent runs. This gives you a unified timeline of everything that happened, with comments in context.

Real-time delivery

Comments are delivered in real time. When you're viewing a card and a teammate posts a comment, it appears instantly without refreshing. This makes asynchronous collaboration feel responsive — you can discuss work in near real-time even across time zones.

Posting a comment automatically subscribes you to the entity's notifications. You'll receive inbox notifications for future comments, status changes, and mentions on that entity.
