Rich Text & Documents

Write rich content in cards with the TipTap editor.

Every work card and entity document in Joyous includes a full-featured rich text editor powered by TipTap. Write specs, document requirements, add code snippets, and structure content with headings and lists — all without leaving the card.

The TipTap editor

The document content field on work cards uses a TipTap-based editor with a clean, distraction-free interface. Start typing and the editor expands to fit your content. Select text to see the bubble menu with formatting options.

Formatting options

Inline formatting

Select any text to reveal the bubble menu with quick-access formatting:

  • Bold — Make text stand out for emphasis
  • Italic — Add subtle emphasis or use for titles
  • Underline — Underline important text
  • Strikethrough — Mark text as removed or outdated
  • Code — Inline code for variable names, commands, or technical terms
  • Link — Add hyperlinks to external resources
  • Highlight — Highlight text with a background color
  • Subscript / Superscript — For technical or scientific notation

Block formatting

Type / on a new line to open the slash menu with block-level formatting:

  • Heading 1, 2, 3 — Structure your content with section headings
  • Bulleted list — Create unordered lists for features, requirements, or notes
  • Numbered list — Ordered steps or ranked items
  • Code block — Multi-line code with syntax formatting
  • Blockquote — Call out important quotes or references
  • Divider — Horizontal rule to separate sections

Use keyboard shortcuts for common formatting: Cmd+B for bold, Cmd+I for italic, Cmd+Opt+1/2/3 for headings. The slash menu shows shortcuts next to each option.

Document content on cards

The document content field lives on the card's overview tab, below the goal field. Use it for:

  • Detailed requirements and acceptance criteria
  • Technical specifications
  • Design notes and references
  • Links to external resources
  • Step-by-step implementation plans

Content is saved automatically as you type, so you never lose work.

Entity documents

Beyond the inline document content on cards, Joyous supports standalone entity documents — rich text documents that are attached to an outcome or work card. These are useful for:

  • Scope analysis reports (generated by AI)
  • Refinement suggestions
  • Detailed project briefs
  • Meeting notes and decisions

Entity documents appear in the Resources row on outcomes and cards, color-coded by type: scope analysis in blue, refinement in purple, and general documents in gray.

The AI agent's Scope and Refine actions automatically generate entity documents attached to the card or outcome. You can review, edit, and reference these documents anytime from the Resources row.
