Setting Up Teams

Create teams, assign icons, and add members to organize your work.

Teams are how you organize people and scope work in Joyous. Each team owns a set of outcomes and their associated work cards, making it easy to see what a group is responsible for and who's working on it. Setting up your first team takes less than a minute.

Creating a team

  1. Navigate to the Teams page

Click Teams in the sidebar to see all teams in your organization.

  2. Create a new team

Click New Team and enter a name — something like "Engineering," "Marketing," or "Product Design."

  3. Choose an icon and color

Click the team icon to open the icon picker. Select from options like briefcase, rocket, flag, compass, or star, and choose a color to make the team visually distinct in the sidebar and on team pages.

Adding members to a team

Once your team exists, add the people who'll be doing the work.

  1. Open the team detail page

Click into the team you just created. You'll land on the Overview tab showing team members and outcomes.

  2. Switch to the Members tab

Click the Members tab in the header to see the full member list and management controls.

  3. Click Add Member

Click the Add Member button. A dialog shows all organization members who aren't already on this team.

  4. Select members to add

Click on a member's name to add them instantly. Repeat for each person you want on the team.

You can remove a team member by hovering over their card in the Members tab and clicking the X button. This removes them from the team but keeps them in the organization.

How teams scope your work

Teams are more than just people containers — they define the scope of your work in Joyous:

  • Outcomes belong to teams — when you create an outcome, you assign it to a team. The team's detail page shows all its outcomes with progress bars, card counts, and status badges.
  • Sidebar navigation — each team appears in the sidebar, giving members one-click access to their team's outcomes and work cards.
  • Team views — the team detail page has an Overview tab showing members and outcome cards at a glance, making it a natural hub for team standups.

Adding outcomes to a team

From the team detail page, click Add Outcome in the header to create an outcome scoped to this team. The outcome will appear on the team's overview with a progress bar showing card completion, card count, and deadline if set.

Teams with no outcomes yet show a centered prompt with an Add Outcome button, making it clear that the next step is to define what the team is working toward.
